The New Home Market in San Antonio

There are many people who don’t know that San Antonio has a strong new home market. In fact, many real estate professionals say there is a shortage of inventory of San Antonio new homes becaus of reduced housing starts and consolidation in the building industry.

There are many great San Antonio builders to choose from when buying a new home in this healthy market, where demand is driven by businesses relocating to San Antonio in addition to a strong military housing market. With Lackland Air Force Base nearby in addition to several other military installations, military families who want to buy a home in San Antonio will find a nice inventory of new homes that fit within the BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing).

Most local builders, like Toll Brothers and David Weekly have been in the market for years, building quality houses and very creative floor plans for home buyers. Real estate agents who consistently work with the top builders in this market are frequently able to negotiate better buyer incentives for their clients.

One agent who specializes in new homes in San Antonio says that buyer incentives from local builders can be substantial, often adding up to several thousand dollars in services, gift certificates, all expense paid vacations, and other goodies.

In short, the San Antonio new home market is a strong alternative to buying used homes because of reduced prices in recent years since the market highs of 2005 and 2006. There is increased competition from builders to reduce overhead and inventory. In addition, demand is still strong for the remaining inventory left.
